I had an extremely hard time waking up this morning, regardless of the fact that I went to sleep shortly after I got Wiley to bed last night. Somewhere between 9:30 and 10. My mom was coming over this morning for her weekly grandma visit and she and Don were going to pick my dad’s truck up from having some repair work done. I was just coming around, only having had my first of many cups of coffee, and had just accepted the fact that this wasn’t going to be one of those mornings when I could get my son to cuddle on the couch with me, content just sucking away on his binky and watching his beloved Elmo’s World.
No this was one of those mornings when Don was going to be harder to wake up than a pre-pubescent teenager, and Wiley wanted to be held (while I stood up-because sitting down was just too much of a threat to his cranky awakefulness)and Mom would be here any minute, and seriously, I could.not.keep.my.eyes.open.!
Anyway, my reinforcement (grandma) arrived shortly, and lo and behold, what did my child do? He took two whole unsupported, non finger holding, wobbly steps to his dearly beloved rammaw (wileyspeak for grandma). I was totally shocked since the most he has done without holding on to anything has been to stand on his own for a split second after I unexpectedly yank my fingers out of his chubby little fists. I am so crazy proud-not as proud as rammaw, mind you-but proud nonetheless! Maybe he will actually be walking some by his birthday!
I have this sneaking suspicion I may be able to keep up with him better while he’s on foot than I can now, considering he can crawl faster than any baby I’ve ever seen. Once he gets going full speed it’s all out, head down, tongue out, panting like a dog, super speed WileyMan. Until his hind goes faster than his hands and he hits the floor face first. He has a beautifully chipped front tooth to prove his “fastest baby ever” status. He wears it very proudly!
Now, if I can just get him to wear the shiny silver and blue birthday crown I bought for his first birthday party…
